Arthur’s Seat

by WBlackwell on July 11, 2017

Last full day.  Day 79 and it’s cool and lightly raining.  From the hotel window, well not a hotel but a dorm room.  Edinburgh Uni is closed and the room with shared bath and massive buffet breakfast, truly Yuge, was only £98/ 2 nights near the heart of the city in July! Anyway that’s Arthur’s Seat behind the campus so as I went for a walk I noticed the weather was marginally improved and I decided to give it a climb. There are many paths, none of them easy and frankly never made the top after finding on route impassable, I decided the very top was so misty it would not be worth the bragging rights so I called it off with only 75 really hard meters to go.  The mist on my glasses was causing vision issues that could have been dangerous.

Any way, the views were awesome.

The camera fails to capture the steepness of the hillside just over the stone wall but the good news is that if you fell the briars, raspberry bushes and gorse would prevent a severe fall leaving you only with flesh wounds.

And Edinburgh was laid out below.

A good note to end this wander.

I leave at 5:15 for a 7 1/2 hour flight arriving in Hartford at 7:40. After the train from Plockton, the hike up Arthur’s Seat, the 1.5 mile walk to Waverley Rail station to get the airport shuttle with my 45# kit (need the exercise before the log plane ride) I’m sure I’ll be hurting Wednesday.

Will, what was the name of the comedy series that you told me about as we were walking back to the Royal Mile?
