Burn’s Night in Dumfries

by WBlackwell on January 24, 2020

I was done with Scotland and heading to England when it was pointed out to me that after nearly 2 months in Scotland it would be weird to not stay for Burn’s Night, the celebration of The Poet’s birth.

Where better to start than the Globe Inn where he would come for a pint of wine? When the Pilgrims were landing in the conveniently named town of Plymouth, MA this pub was 10 years old.

In the beer garden out back the walls are painted with divers scenes of Burns’ life.

Both Lowland beers are good.

A large mural on the rear wall

And some fine stained glass and other Burns art

This room is original so I sat on the bench he frequented

Dumfries is very walkable and my B&B was not far from the center of town. The Stag was enjoyable

The Waverley was the closest to where I was staying and the mother of the bartender asked for a photo.  I’m going to let the beard grow in once in England since fewer will make the Big Yin connection .
