Caister-on-Sea

by WBlackwell on May 30, 2018

I’ve done well with the locations and often views from the guest houses, B&B’s and inns I’ve stayed at on this wander and this was no exception.  When I looked out my window this morning I knew it would be a long & good walking day. This is part of the beachfront that runs from the mouth of the Yare off to the right about 5 miles where the arcades are located and then to the left (north? West?) for yet to be seen how far. Turned out to be one of those 10 mile days.

These Grey heron seem to be larger than the Blue heron of New England waterways

I believe there are 30 turbines in this farm. From where I was standing I heard nothing

Lupins remind me of the Montys.

I think the plant is sea holly.  I tried to Google the sea snails only to find that a large, animated form of snail is a noted ride in the amusement parks in Great Yarmouth, so nada.

Poppy

And just a quick view

There was a nice enough holiday caravan park that I cut through heading inland when I saw a sign indicating a castle.  After a pleasant walk through a suburban housing area, over a pedestrian bridge crossing a large highway and through some fields I spotted Caister Castle. A moated castle built between 1442 -1446 by a Sir John Fastolf who is thought to be an inspiration for one of William Shakespeare’s similarly named characters.

I’ve seen plenty of castles so when confronted with a £16 fee I declined.  The hook was it was connected to a auto museum.  I didn’t want to pay to see that either so I headed on my route that would wind back to Great Yarmouth.

Plantings like this wisteria made the walk delightful

And oe of the homes had this old fella parked

Suddenly in a large field I saw some old American cars so I headed over. The UK National StreetRod Association would be holding a car show tomorrow.  After a short conversation I was told that I could wander around for a little while for free since tomorrow was the real day start.

I just couldn’t pick out my favorite

Well maybe this one

Or this one

Or… never mind.

And after stocking up at a Co-op, I find this in the parking lot back at the GH.
