Duncraig Castle

by WBlackwell on June 17, 2009

It’s not really a castle.  Well, not my idea of one, but with 80 rooms it is one big house.  The history of the place is interesting.  Built in the 1860’s by Alexander Matheson a businessman who seems to have made a lot of money in the opium trade, it has it’s own railway station and had been used over the years as a hospital and girls school.  In fact attached to the original building is a very boxy school.  It looks very strange. You can see it on the right in the first photo. I went there as much to see Plockton from a different angle a to see the Castle itself
