Laxey Wheel and Ramsey – Isle of Man

by WBlackwell on October 31, 2017

Today, after so much walking yesterday, I decided to to a hop-on/hop-off bus to the north. These bus tours are a great and inexpensive way to meet people and  see an area.  The pass cost £7.50 or about $10. First stop was Laxey where there is the largest working waterwheel in the world.

The Isle of Man has these curious 4-horned sheep. I spotted this one off in afield.  2 large horns sweep back and 2 more grow to the side

Just before the waterwheel is a corn-mill that is now a restaurant. I don’t know if their wheel generates electricity

Since the IoM has no source for coal to power a steam pump, water was the only alternative.  And in today’s world it would be seen as the green, clean one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laxey_Wheel for details.

Back on the next bus and off to Ramsey
