Manchester Museum of Science and Industry

This was another fun one.  Manchester has given the world some major stuff including John Kay’s flying shuttle in 1737, changing  weaving  from  home to company operation.  That lead  Manchester to control the cotton industry for 100 years and to help move it and coal, the 1st canal in Britain.  Or that John Dalton introduced atomic theory and the first passenger rail was also here.   Manchester can also take either the credit or blame for competitive football. Rolls Royce and, in 1948, the first programmable computer.  With all this and more in the back pocket, the Museum of Science and Industry was great.

I sat for a kids science & history presentation.  The staffer was terrific both in presentations and involving the children.  One of the teachers apologized for their volume but I assured her I loved their enthusiasm.

So I stared with the cotton industry

Considering the frailty of cotton, how they were able to learn to mechanically comb, twist warp and weave at extreme speed is impressive.

Moved on to Power

Air and space

And cars
