Old Friends in Dundee

by WBlackwell on December 5, 2019

On my third visit to this seaside city, I came to see friends not stuff having learned about jute, jam & journalism in the past. Connor Berg & Kyle Buchan & I had met over 18 months ago at the Nether Inn and decided that was a good place to reconnect. Only one of us is actually old!

Later that evening Connor took me to his mom’s for dinner on our way to see my first Panto where he is both the dastardly tax collector and Big Bad Wolf

The panto was Hansel & Gretel with some liberties.  Like dancing to Jackson’s Thriller!

Combining H&G with the Great British Bake off we had 2 bakers competing for the town’s best.  Panto requires serious overacting, a Dame played by a man, a hero played by a woman & audience interaction like cheers & booing, and some subtle jokes

Not sure who had the most fun, the cast or audience

I stayed at the Shaftesbury Lodge GH with a Willow Tree Room style in the breakfast room and very nice lounge. Great hosts and very nice room, albeit with the leaky windows so many of  these places have.  I so wish these old listed building would use the 3M window film to keep the drafts out and save money on heating.  Across the country I’m guessing thousands of £ could be saved!

And this pizza is not a pizza, it’s an omelet big enough for 2 and too big for me to finish.  I should have asked for the remaining slices to go
