Picasso & The Museu Frederic Marès

by WBlackwell on January 8, 2018

I was amazed that at one point in his career Picasso painted people who looked like actual people.  Even looked like me in once case! After the first 2 photos the security person told me photos were not allowed. No big deal as most of his stuff is too weird for me.

Not too far from the Picasso Museum and fairly close to the Barcelona Cathedral is one of the most eclectic museums I’ve ever been in.  Frederic Marès i Deulovol (1893–1991) was a rich sculptor, traveller and obsessive collector, and displays of religious art and vast varieties of antiques objets litter the museum.

Not only religious artifacts but much, much more. Like armament.

Or pipes..

Knives and razors.

Home holy water fonts..

Opera glasses, telescopes and binoculars

And who doesn’t need a choice of walking sticks?

Or monoculars

Photography was in it’s infancy when Mares began his collection so a large camera was needed

A real overload of items
