River Thames Cruises

The London Pass included the Abby tour and also the cruise.  You get 24 hours from first enacting the pass to travel from Westminster to Greenwich with a couple of stops along the way.  This is important because the London Pass says the river cruise is only one day not 24 hrs, but the ticket collector said, no they honor it 24 hours after first use so I could have used it both Wednesday afternoon and Thursday AM or Friday if I wasn’t leaving.  You can use it like a bus to hop on hop off. It wasn’t a great day weather wise but I won’t have time tomorrow so I jumped on.  I believe I was the only person whose first language was English.  About 30 young French rugby players with coaches and chaperons, and an equal number of Japanese. One woman from Italy when I answered her question about the helicopters, then said in a low voice “Why do they come here?”  I asked “Who?”, she said “Arabs.” My response was “Why did you come here?”  “Because it is such an amazing city”, she responded.  I said that most people who come to London do it for the same reason she & I did, because it’s a fantastic city.  Those who intend harm are in the smallest of minorities but unfortunately they can do great harm.  But not today.

From the boat:

No idea what the first building is but the second is Cleopatra’s Needle a 68’/21m obelisk dating from 1480 BC and given to Britain in 1819 by the  Egyptian ruler Muhammad Ali as a thank you for Nelson’s defense of hisEygpt vs. Napoleon.

I debarked in Greenwich, walked under the river and jumped in the DLR back to the Underground.

Tomorrow is a travel day, unfortunately as I could stay here forever.  Knowing I’ll be back makes it Ok.
