Southwark Cathedral

by WBlackwell on April 28, 2017

After the London Bridge Experience I needed to find it’s opposite and this church was it. There has been a religious building on this site since 606.  First nuns then the Order of St Augustine and is mentioned in William I’s Doomsday Book.  A curator, Nigel, asked where I hailed from and when I said Massachusetts he told me a story of a student who grew up and went to Cambridge returning a very educated man.  He took his valuable collection of 200 books and went to seek his fortune in Boston.  There he met people he know from home and they asked him to start a school.  John Harvard agreed.

I believe the Cathedral is pronounced  “Southark”
