St Mary’s (RC) & St Andrews on the way to the

by WBlackwell on June 29, 2017

With a chance to rest up in the Highlands and good Wifi, I’ve been able to catch up a wee bit on my posts. FYI.  Dates generally reflect the days of the events not the day of posting

St Mary’s dates from 1844 with Cardinal Hume in a park at the rear.

I don’t know who this bishop  is nor why he has a head under is arm like Anne Boleyn to ‘queer the dew’ as the great Stanley Holloway used to sing.

And the oldest church in Newcastle is, not surprisingly another St Andrew’s this one dating from the 12th century with most of the work from the 13th & 14th.  With nobody there and some quiet music playing, it was a good place to take  a break and have some quiet contemplation.  Turns out in a few days it would pay off when a rubbish day got out of the mud and shined on me.

Either steam or hot water runs through pipes under the grating to heat the place
