Walking along the Cromarty Firth

After that full-on Scottish breakfast in the last post I needed to get some non-city air and stretch my legs in the Highlands.  There is a 2-3 mile circular walk that includes fields, woods and a stretch along the river so off I went.  A detour from the main path was indicted by a sign post and when ever someone goes to the effort of measuring distance and erecting a sign it means the end result is usually worth it and this one out of the meadow and through the woods led to a small stream.  I haven’t yet found out what this tree is but it appears to be producing a nut and, if edible, a bountiful supply.

Sitting and listening to the brook’s sparkyly song was very relaxing and just what I needed after yesterday’s tiring journey.

Suddenly out of the woods here’s the views that greeted me

In a week or two the gorse and Scotch Broom will turn this spot golden but today the red shoots on the pines stand out.

And back in the day the fisherman who lived here had the best location ever.

Probably thought “That would be a good place for a bridge”

Then there is this old church

Honeysuckle?

And since you can’t have fish and chips without potatoes, this field should supply quite a few platters.

And you need wheat, growing on the other side of the road for the batter.

Nice walk!

It sometimes amazes me that just when things seem dark, a light gets turned on.  Up until a day ago I had never heard of Evanton and now I already know I’ll never forget it.
