Beamish, Part 6 – The Colliery

by WBlackwell on October 9, 2018

And from the village you pass into the colliery.

In the red building the carts of coal ride up the elevator to be dumped into the waiting rail cars.

Some of which are in great condition

Lanterns for the mine

And tags.  If you’re tag was on a peg, you were out of the shaft.  Need to know.

And outside the “museum” which is Beamish for “we have more cool stuff than we know what to do with” is this gigantic steam shovel.  Real steam!

Inside it  was an avalanche of ‘stuff’ like a movie projector

An invitation to weigh yourself?

Drop a coin and the docs drink

And who can’t use another roll of film?

On the way back to Newcastle I spotted the 20m Angel of the North.
