Calton Hill Edinburgh

by WBlackwell on May 28, 2015

I couldn’t get on the train after the Botanic as it was only 5:15 and the non-peak ticket starts at 6:30 so to kill an hour I went to on of the highest places in the city.  You may have seen some of the following in professional shots of the city, these are mine.

The Duke of Wellington is actually just past the base of Calton near Waverley Station

The Palace is at the opposite end of The Royal Mile from Edinburgh Castle.  There are pictures of this famous street in previous year’s posts so I shan’t bore you with repeats.

The views from the Hill are special as you can see both Arthur’s Seat and the Castle at the far right

Dugald Stewart Monument

The Nelson Monument has 143 steps and the best view of Edinburgh but it was 144 steps too many so the views are all the second best!

The National Monument was never finished.  Reminds me of McCaig’s Folly in Oban
