Inverness & Dingwall Cathedral & Tower

by WBlackwell on February 25, 2019

Going to U.K. in January folks asked?  Loving the winter I’ve suffered through in Britain. Today was a sport jacket with no tee, hat or jumper. About 60f!! Little worried about the lack of rain.

The castle perched on a hill in Inverness is currently a court and local council offices.  I’ve been up there but today after taking a bus from Dingwall where I’m staying, I opted for a river wander.

Inverness Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew, is a cathedral of the Scottish Episcopal Church situated in the city of Inverness in Scotland close to the banks of the River Ness. It is the seat of the Bishop of Moray, Ross and Caithness, ordinary of the Diocese of Moray, Ross and Caithness.

There are a couple wee islands on the River Ness that I was hoping to add to my list of British Isles I’ve visited but the bridges wee closed for some kind of service. Not quite sure what these guys were doing but I hope hey wee heavily insulated.

Now back in Dingwall I noticed a tower which meant I had to see why it was there and the view.  Ahh. Different Hector McDonald, not the laird of Glenboggle!  The general served in the British Army from 1870 to 1903 in Afghanistan, Sudan and the Boer wars gaining many honors. A scandal of a homosexual nature followed by a bullet ended his career. Great views of Dingwall and the River Ness
